Harper’s Bazaar, UK

Somewhat off the beaten track, Sifnos is an island for connoisseurs. It is not on any of the typical island-hoppers’ ferry lines, nor is it known for its beaches (though the south coast has several enchanting ones), so the sunburnt masses who make certain Cycladic islands unbearable in the summer stay away. Instead, it attracts its own pleasant crowd of regulars – artists and intellectuals, rather than party animals and beach bums – who appreciate the uniqueness of the island, its landscape, architecture, traditional vibe, pottery workshops and famously good food. Feel part of that crowd by staying in this glorious 19th-century neoclassical mansion in the hilltop village of Artemonas; it has been owned by the same family – ship owners, musicians, journalists and a theatre director – for six generations.

Don’t expect butlers, flatscreen TVs, Jacuzzis or even ensuite bathrooms: this is the real thing. Prepare meals in the traditional kitchen (or walk to the local taverna), take in the views from the terrace, admire family heirlooms in the living room, and sleep on brass beds. Absolutely charming.

We loved our stay in this beautiful historic house with large flower filled terrace and marvelous view. The hosts were warm and wonderful. An unforgettable experience!

Nikos and Julietta are wonderful hosts and very helpful. The house is a fantastic old mansion with lots of original furniture and decorations. The terrace is large with beautiful flowers and a view to die for! The backyard is huge and with lots of toys for children, even a well equipped treehouse. The Bus stop is right down the stairs.

Nikos and family are amazing hosts and have taken care of any single detail. The communication with them was perfect and we couldn’t have been luckier in having them as hosts. Now about the place itself. The photos are great but the place is even more incredible in person. The house is quite spacious and it is maintained very well. The location is also perfect as you can walk to all the various cafes, restaurants, bars, supermarket, etc. etc. There is also a parking a block away so its easy to have access to it. The bathrooms are perfect, remodeled in the last few years but maintaining the overall character of the house. The kitchen has all the amenities you could ask for. With the windows shutters it was easy to control the amount of sun (heat) and the place was extremely comfortable. The high ceilings also helped maintain the space cool. I think there may have been AC available but it was not needed at all. There is so much to see and do in Sifnos but just staying at the house is an experience on its own. I want to go back soon and I would highly recommend staying at this house.

We loved staying at Niko’s place. Such a beautiful property with so much rich history (his family has been living here for generations). The outdoor space was beautiful—we loved coming home at the end of the day watching the colors change as the sun set. The home’s interior was also very carefully designed to retain its authentic appeal and looks just like in the photos. We appreciated Nikos’s availability, and loved getting to know his adorable dog Bob! As a bonus (for cat lovers like us, at least) there is a sweet family of semi-feral kittens that loves to come visit. My only note would just be that the apartment has no air conditioning and does get quite hot inside when temperatures rise above 28/29 degrees C. Luckily for us it wasn’t a problem as it was relatively cool the whole week, and the fans work well. Overall we had an amazing stay and hope to come back again in the future!

This is a special home on Sifnos! Rich with history and incredible details, Nikos’ home is a must stay. Ample space in door and out, with authentic Sifnian touches and taste. Nikos is a super host, kind, flexible and accommodating. The bonus is Bob, his dog Nextdoor that loves to pop by to say hello. Miss Bob already.

We really enjoyed our stay – Nikos and his wife were warm, hospitable and helpful. The location is great for being close to both Artemonas and Apollonia, and the wine press is a lovely traditional house with great views and naturally cool in the heat.

Laura (Austria)
This was the closest thing to a fairytale house. The surroundings and the house itself are beautiful. Nikos was very welcoming and quick to help, even showing us around the property. That’s how we found out that many of the things inside the house are made or restored by him. Three days in this place didn’t feel enough, we definitely want to come back for more.

What a gem. Absolutely recommend this place in Sifnos. It has everything you need, right next to a bus stop, in the main village of the island, with an extremely kind and generous host, an amazing and authentic design, with a back and front yard, amazing view of the island, pets. Just a dream, frankly. Probably the best airbnb I have ever stayed in. We will try to come back.

Aggelos (Germany)
Very beautiful house with amazing view. Suitable for families. Nikos is a very kind host, and gave us various information about the island. Thank you very much.
